John and I went to Racine for a few days. While we were there, we did some "baby led weaning" with Grandmommy and Granddad! Baby-led weaning is an alternative to purees, where the baby basically starts out with real food. We have decided to do a combination of BLW and purees... and I prefer to call it "Baby Led Solids" rather than "weaning." Our saying is "Food before one is just for fun!" John will continue to get the majority of his nourishment from me, and he can explore food's tastes and textures at his own rate. So far he's had homemade pear puree, homemade pear and pumpkin puree, sugar snap peas (whole, he sucks on them), chicken noodle soup (broth), french onion soup (broth) and broccoli florets. This was his first attempt at apple, banana, and squash. He is pretty good at operating spoons, if you load them up for him first, but he still makes a big mess!
We are focusing on veggies, fruits, and will do grains and dairy last. So far his favorite has been the chicken noodle soup!
Banana mouth!
Feeling the squash in his hands.
The carnage that is his onesie...did you know banana stains BLACK???
Practicing with his spoon.
Licking squash out of the bowl.
Dumping...
He loves The Blue Cup!
